I N T E R P A G E (TM) Network Services Inc. ============================================================================ Service Update, Tues, Sept. 19, 1995 [] WWW/HTML Page Space now available with URL Aliasing [] Upload your HTML Pages, Images, and other WWW files via E-Mail [] Personalized Fax Cover Sheets now available ---------------------------------------------- Hello! At the same time that we continue to experience steady growth in our customer base (Thank you!), we are also striving to regularly add new features to our existing offerings which will enhance the value of our services to our current and future customers. We are therefore pleased to announce three new features, all of which were implemented as a direct result of your input as to what new services you would like to see Interpage offer. ------------------------------- [1] WWW Space with URL Aliasing Our first new addition allows Interpage customers to place HTML documents on our system, which may be viewed by people who "browse" the World Wide Web. In effect, we will create some "Web Space" for you, where may place information about yourself, a product you sell, your school, or any other topic of interest. (We reserve the right to examine all WWW pages and to exclude pages/images at will, such as, but not constrained to, those which we judge to be inapropriate, in poor taste, or pose a security problem). In order for others using Netscape, Mosaic, Lynx, or other WWW browsers, to "see" your page, they will enter a "URL" in the form: http://www.interpage.net/customers/ Customers who have registered domains with us may dispense with this rather long URL by using "aliasing". For example, if you were the owner of the domain "marge.com", you may now set up home pages which will have the URL "www.marge.com", instead of "www.interpage.net/customers/marge". This creates the impression that you have your own site/system, and more importantly, it allows people to access your home page in an elegant, easy-to-remember, and simple manner. In addition, for an added charge, Interpage's WebReach (SM) services may be added to your WWW page, providing ever greater utility and reach than standard Web pages. ----------------------------- [2] WWW/HTML Upload via E-Mail Customers who use our WWW service may upload their HTML, GIF, and text documents to their "WWW Space" automatically, via e-mail. This is useful if you need to make modifications to prices or other aspects of your text, or in general change a file or files of your WWW pages. WWW Uploading via E-Mail is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. WWW page uploading is similar to sending a fax: Mail is sent to a user's "config" account, with specific information in the Subject: header which tells our system how to process the mail. Thus, if user "joe" needed to upload a new "index" page (a file which has the main message/menus which users first see when they view your WWW page), he would: *********************************************************************** STEP ONE> Send mail to "joe-config@interpage.net" STEP TWO> In the Subject: header, type "web text index.html" (Remember to put spaces between the words, like "web" and "text", etc.) STEP THREE> Include the filename of the index.html page in the BODY of the letter. DO NOT SEND IT AS AN ATTACHMENT! ************************************************************************ After our system receives 'joe's' WWW index.html page, it will determine if it can "understand" the message, and if so, place a file in user "joe"'s HTML directory called "index.html". (Note where the system got the name from: it is the name placed in the Subject: line after the "web" and "text"). If user 'joe' wanted to upload a GIF file called "thelma.gif" to his WWW home page, the process is slighlty different. Since the gif file is not a text file, and it needs to be sent in "uuencoded" form, Interpage needs to know that the body of the letter in the case of the GIF file is NOT text, and needs to be treated differently. Thus, in order for user 'joe' to upload a GIF file, he will need to: ****************************************************************** STEP ONE> Convert the GIF file into a UUENCODED GIF. To do this on a Unix system, type: "uuencode thelma.gif thelma.gif" STEP TWO> Send mail to: "joe-config@interpage.net" STEP THREE> In the Subject: line, enter "web uuencoded thelma.gif" ******************************************************************* Note that instead of "text" as in the above example, here we use "uuencoded", which tells the system that the file which follows is a special file which requires special treatment. If Interpage receives the uuencoded GIF file correctly, it will AUTOMATICALLY convert the e-mail to a regular GIF file, and place it in user 'joe''s WWW directory. A few notes: -Your main index file MUST be called "index.html" -Filenames may be 1 to 14 characters, lower case letters and numbers only. The filename may have only one period or dash in it. -If you upload a new file to your WWW space which has the name of an existing file, the older file will be renamed to "old-". If "old-" also exists, it (the oldest one) will be deleted. -If you are not on a Unix system, and/or can not create a UUencoded file, there are a number of public domain and other software packages which can do this for you offline, after which your UUencoded GIF may be uploaded to your local system, and then sent to us. -the Subject line command "web text filename.html" will take whatever is in the body of the letter and make it a file called -the Subject line command "web uuencoded gif.test" will ONLY work with a correctly UUencoded GIF file, ie, with the "begin" and "end" tags. Other non-conforming messages will not be accepted. ---------------------------- [3] Personalized Cover Sheets InFax (SM) and OutFax (SM) customers may now use their own cover sheets instead of the default "Interpage" cover sheet. Recipients will see a faithful reproduction of the sender's original cover sheet, with the appropriate "To:" information under the banner or/logo. Cover sheet registration is available at an additional charge, please contact us for details. E-Mail: info@interpage.net Copyright 1995, INSI.
